Bissau January 11, 2021 -- The Government of Guinea-Bissau, through the Ministry of Public Health, received a donation of hospital equipment and cesarean section kits from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Guinea-Bissau.
The delivery ceremony was chaired by the Secretary of State for Hospital Management, Cornélia Aleluia Lopes Man, on behalf of the Minister of Public Health, on the premises of the Ministry of Health in Bissau.
"The Ministry of Public Health will ensure the transparent management of the equipment donated. UNFPA is a traditional partner of the government of Guinea-Bissau, and particularly the Ministry of Public Health, and has made continuous efforts to support the difficulties we face in the health sector.” Said the Secretary of State for Hospital Management, Cornélia Aleluia Lopes Man.
In addition, Cheikh Fall, UNFPA representative in Guinea-Bissau, stated that "This initiative is an exceptional testimony to UNFPA's commitment to supporting the Government of Guinea-Bissau to strengthen the National Health System."
This act is also a demonstration of UNFPA's irrevocable commitment to achieving sustainable development goals that aim to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in Guinea-Bissau, in line with the vision to achieve the three transformative results by 2030:
- zero unmet need for contraception;
- zero preventable maternal deaths; and
- zero gender-based violence and harmful practices, such as child marriage and female genital mutilation..
The government of Guinea-Bissau received a batch of equipment consisting of 60 beds, 50 screens, 20 serum holders, 30 examination tables, 30 rolling seats, 3 surgery tables, 30 delivery tables, 20 wheelchairs and 20 instruments' tables that aim to increase the supply of health care, with special attention to maternal mortality.
