Bissau, 08 March 2023 - The United Nations under the leadership of UNFPA, in partnership with government and the private sector, came together to celebrate this year's International Women's Day under the theme " DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality", in recognition of women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

To mark the date, a roundtable on the use of digital technology and the empowerment of women and girls was held - to raise awareness of the society, including national authorities and partners, on the need to accelerate progress in the area of Gender Equality, in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5.

The event was attended by UNFPA Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Ms. Argentina Matavel, Ms. Helena Embaló, former Director of BCEAO, Mr. António Monteiro, from BAO bank, Ms. Pascual Lamarana, Director of Private Banking at Ecobank Guinea Bissau, Ms. Yasedhara Casimiro, Director of Social Responsibility and Partnerships at ORANGE, and Ms. Deusa Fernandes, Supervisor of Mobile Money Operations at MTN.
