Bissau, 07 February 2023 – The signing of the Pact of Commitment for the Supply of Reproductive Health Products in Guinea Bissau, was held between UNFPA in Guinea Bissau, represented by its Representative, Jocelyn Fenard, and the Government of Guinea Bissau, represented by the Ministry of Public Health, through its Minister, Dionísio Cumba, and the Ministry of Finance, through its Minister, Ilidio Vieira Té, all being "Signatories".
The act, which took place at the premises of the Ministry of Finance, is part of UNFPA's Global Procurement Programme, which started in 2021 and will last until 2030, and is based on the creation of a more strategic approach to meet the needs of women and girls for modern contraceptives and life-saving maternal health medicines in the most remote locations.
In this regard, a budget line has been allocated in the 2023 State Budget for achieving the strategic objectives of the Procurement Partnership, which aim, inter alia, to increase the availability and ensure the quality of Reproductive Health (RH) and Family Planning (FP) commodities, ensure that RH and FP supplies reach the most remote locations, and increase national financial contributions for quality RH and FP services.
