Bissau, 22 September 2023 - An official handover ceremony of equipments to the National Statistics Institute took place today, as part of the 4th General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-4).

The handover ceremony, which took place on the premises of the Central Census Department (DCR), was presided over by the President of the National Statistics Institute of Guinea-Bissau (INE), Roberto Vieira, in the presence of the UNFPA Guinea-Bissau Representative, Jocelyn Fenard.

This delivery corresponds to the second batch of equipment given to INE by UNFPA as part of the preparations for the start-up of census mapping, as part of the activities of the 4th General Population and Housing Census, thus creating the conditions for the skilling of human resources (technical cartographers from the DCR).

The equipment delivered includes: 1 server, 10 PCs with their respective monitors and 120 tablets, the monetary value of which amounts to USD 81,492 (eighty-one thousand, four hundred and ninety-two US dollars), around 50 million CFA francs.

The last census carried out in the country dates back to 2009, and this operation should be carried out every 10 years, in accordance with international recommendations. The 4th General Population and Housing Census, scheduled for 2024, falls within the 2020/2024 census series, in line with other countries in the region.
