UNFPA supports healthcare workers during coronavirus pandemic
Equipping health professionals to stay well and care for others during these uncertain times will be the difference between lives lost or saved. But, COVID-19 and its consequences are non-discriminating and no one is immune to the virus.
To this end, UNFPA has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare professionals in Guinea-Bissau, to ensure they have adequate equipment to protect themselves and prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The equipment’s were donated on the international midwives’ day, for all 200 midwives in the country and to nurses and doctors who are in the front line at Hospital Nacional Simao Mendes (9 nurses and 13 doctors), the only Hospital equipped to received COVID-19 cases.
The personal protective equipment (PPE) kits were composed of 300 protective visors, 15L of alcohol gel, 110 social masks and 5000 pairs of gloves.
UNFPA has been providing healthcare workers around the globe with personal protective equipment (PPE) and has been working with local and national governments, NGOs, and other UN agencies to raise awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic.
