Bissau, 11 de julho de 2023 - World Population Day is celebrated under the theme: Unlocking the power of gender equality: Raising the voices of women and girls to unlock the infinite possibilities of our world.

To mark the date, UNFPA and the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration organised an event at the Franco Bissau Guinean Cultural Centre, with a programme that included various activities, including the presentation of the results of the survey on reproductive autonomy carried out in recent weeks in Guinea-Bissau and a round table on gender equality and women's empowerment with the participation of youth and women leaders and other partners.

Participating in the round table were: Maneque Correia da Silva, President of the National Network of Young Women Leaders of Guinea-Bissau, Aissatu Forbs Djaló Dos Santos, President of the National Youth Council of Guinea-Bissau and President of the CPLP Youth Forum, Vanessa Margarida Buté Vaz, Politician and Writer, Lizandra Mariza Gomes Cabral dos Reis, Founder and CEO of the company N'té Import Export, and Pedro Saraiva, Head of the Political Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Guinea-Bissau.

This year's World Population Day is a reminder that we can achieve the prosperous, peaceful and sustainable future envisaged by the United Nations International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development if we harness the power of every human being on the planet.
